Fix Microphone Permissions
How to grant microphone access to Transcribe Health in your browser so you can start recording sessions.
Transcribe Health needs microphone access to record and transcribe your sessions. If your microphone isn't working, it's usually a browser permission issue.
Quick fix
When you click Start Recording for the first time, your browser will ask for microphone permission. Click Allow.
If you accidentally clicked Block, follow the steps below for your browser.
Google Chrome
- Click the lock icon (or tune icon) in the address bar, to the left of the URL
- Find Microphone in the permissions list
- Change it from Block to Allow
- Refresh the page
Alternatively:
- Go to chrome://settings/content/microphone
- Make sure Transcribe Health is not in the "Not allowed" list
- If it is, click the three dots next to it and select Remove
- Refresh the page and try again
Firefox
- Click the lock icon in the address bar
- Click Connection secure then More information
- Go to the Permissions tab
- Find Use the Microphone and set it to Allow
- Refresh the page
Safari (Mac)
- Go to Safari > Settings > Websites > Microphone
- Find Transcribe Health in the list
- Change it to Allow
- Refresh the page
Microsoft Edge
- Click the lock icon in the address bar
- Find Microphone and change it to Allow
- Refresh the page
Still not working?
If you've allowed microphone permissions and it's still not working:
- Check your system settings - make sure your operating system allows browser access to the microphone. On Mac, go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone.
- Try a different microphone - if you have multiple microphones (built-in, headset, USB), try switching between them in your system sound settings.
- Close other apps - another application might be using the microphone (Zoom, Teams, etc.). Close it and try again.
- Try a different browser - if Chrome isn't working, try Firefox or Edge.
- Check your hardware - make sure your microphone isn't muted on a physical switch.
