Use Real-time Translation

Transcribe Health can translate your live transcript into over 40 languages in real-time using NLLB (No Language Left Behind). Translated text appears alongside the original transcript as you speak.

Prerequisites

• You must be in an active transcription session
• Your organization must have the real-time translation feature enabled

Selecting a target language

From the toolbar

1. During a live session, locate the translation icon (globe) in the session toolbar
2. Click it to open the language picker
3. Search or scroll to find your target language
4. Click the language to activate translation

The toolbar button highlights in blue when translation is active, showing the selected language code (e.g., "FR" for French).

From display settings

1. Open the display settings panel in the session view
2. Find the Translate to dropdown
3. Select your target language from the list

How translation works

• Translation uses Meta's NLLB-200 model, supporting over 40 languages
• Only complete sentences (final utterances) are translated — partial words and in-progress speech are not
• Translated segments appear in the transcript via real-time WebSocket updates as soon as translation completes
• The original transcript is always preserved — translation is additive

Turning off translation

To stop translating, open the language picker and select Off. The original (untranslated) transcript continues as normal.

Supported languages

The translation picker includes languages across multiple regions:

• Major languages — English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Hindi
• South Asian — Bengali, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam
• Southeast Asian — Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Malay, Filipino
• European — Polish, Ukrainian, Czech, Slovak, Hungarian, Romanian, Bulgarian, Greek, Swedish, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Turkish
• Middle Eastern — Hebrew, Persian
• African — Swahili, Amharic, Afrikaans

Tips

• Translation quality is best for common language pairs (e.g., English to Spanish, French, or German)
• Speak in clear, complete sentences for more accurate translations
• Translation adds a brief delay compared to the original transcript since it waits for complete utterances
